名詞子句
Noun Clause
所謂名詞子句,就是在句子當中嵌入一個地位形同名詞的子句。這些子句之前通常會由「連接詞(whether, if)」、「疑問詞(who, why, where, how 等)」或「關係代名詞(that, which, whom, whatever 等)」引導,其後結構為直述句(也就是 S+V)。以本支影片所出現的句子舉例,So while students are solving math problems, a teacher can quickly find out who’s paying attention and who’s not. 名詞子句便是who’s paying attention and who’s not,指稱「有專心和沒有專心的(學生)」。或是 We were curious if the headbands could actually measure concentration. 就是用 if(是否)帶出「這些頭帶是不是真的可以測量專注程度」這件事,此時 the headbands could actually measure concentration 既是有主詞(the headbands)有動詞(could (actually) measure)的子句,本身也是一個名詞。

- I’m not sure whether I should tell her the truth.
我不確定要不要跟她說實話。 (名詞子句為 whether I should tell her the truth,要不要跟她說實話)
